近年来，彩钢板房屋火灾时有发生，甚造成重大人员伤亡和财产损失。彩色钢板用易燃的聚苯乙烯泡沫包裹。一旦点燃，聚苯乙烯泡沫立即接触火焰，熔化并燃烧，产生大量黑烟。火灾发生后，聚苯乙烯、聚氨酯泡沫等易燃材料不仅燃烧速度快，而且还会产生大量有毒有害气体，从而危及周围人群的生命。

2012年10月10日5时，陕西省西安市周县陈河乡汉济渭河引水工程中铁十八局施工现场的彩钢板（聚苯乙烯芯材）活动房屋发生火灾。大火仅持续了6分钟，直到建筑物倒塌，造成12人死亡，2人失踪，24人受伤。
On October 10,2012, at 5:00 pm, a fire broke out in a mobile house made of colored steel (polystyrene core) at the construction site of the 18th Railway Bureau of the han-ji Weihe River diversion project in Chenhe Township, Zhouzhi County, Shaanxi Province. The fire lasted only six minutes until the building collapsed, killing 12 people, leaving two missing and 24 injured.
2013年4月14日6时左右，湖北省襄阳市樊城区前进路怡景酒店发生火灾，造成14人死亡，47人受伤。据调查，消防大楼二楼网络俱乐部屋顶采用了带可燃夹层材料的彩钢板，导致火势迅速蔓延。酒店楼部分外窗设置钢质防盗网，严重影响消防救援和人员逃生。
At around 6:00 p.m. on April 14,2013, a fire broke out at the Yijing hotel on Qianjin road in Fancheng District, Hubei Province, killing 14 people and injuring 47 others. According to the investigation, the fire building on the second floor of the Network Club roof with combustible Sandwich Material Color Steel Plate, leading to the rapid spread of fire. Some of the exterior windows of the hotel are equipped with steel anti-theft nets, which seriously affect fire rescue and escape.
2015年5月25日19时30分左右，河南省平顶山市庐山县康乐老人公寓发生特大火灾事故，造成39人死亡，6人受伤，面积745.8，直接经济损失2064.5万元。国务院事故调查组认定该事故为生产责任事故。事故原因是以易燃易爆材料为芯材的
彩钢板在老年公寓内被非法使用，电线接触不良、发热，高温点燃周围电线绝缘层等易燃易爆材料，导致火灾。
